The whole narrative stinks as badly as 'IS are like nothing we've ever seen'. Really? I remember a little group called al-Qaeda that they sprung from. And they weren't actually marching across military zones in full view of everyone. Entire governments with all their security apparatus expect us to believe IS just appeared one day?

Did anybody actually say anything along those lines, or did your ignorance contribute that narrative?

you mister have reached the grounds of 'out of order'

taliban > al-qaeda > isis > is
are the enemy that have been invoked to start/have/create a war

remember the first rule of warfare
1st rule ... 'you require an enemy'

sadly the created enemy have taken on a whole life all of their own and a even sadder fact is that we will have to deal with it ...

mods please close this thread, many thanks Steve ...

What's so out of order about it? Nobody said that IS were unlike anything we had seen before, PC Ernie has a "narrative". It's one about him being lied to by the powers that be all the time, and him being too clever for the lies. But he manufactures most of the lies he sees through for himself.

Anyone can draw the same Taliban to IS diagram as you did. And with some light Googling you would be able to go back as far as 1897 when Churchill fought the 'Talibs' and thought them very bad chaps. So how PC Ernie supposed he had been given a 'narrative' that assumes his total ignorance of such well known things is a bit of a mystery.

Rule of thumb: if somebody is trying to recreate an 8th Century political entity, accusations of great novelty are likely to be misplaced.

Boris Johnson: Get tough with British extremists

http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28923689

Quote:
He also argued that the law should be swiftly changed so that people returning from Iraq and Syria would have to prove they were not taking part in jihad - or face prosecution.

I've little problem with debating whether we should remove citizenship, but asking the 'defendants' to prove themselves not guilty before charges have been brought etc?

Quote:
Mr Johnson said Britain must try to close down Islamic State (IS), warning that if nothing is done it would mean "a tide of terror will eventually lap at our own front door".

He's starting his PM campaign early, isn't he? Many would argue interfering in the Middle East is exactly why we have terrorists at our front door. And a lot of needlessly dead soldiers.

Quote:
Mr Johnson has overall responsibility for the Metropolitan Police which believes that about half of the 500 British jihadists who have gone to Iraq and Syria to fight for Islamic State are from London.

Oh, look, we've got Met. figures that have drastically dropped in a matter of days. It's around 250 now. I wonder what the ratio of lazy reporting to Met. BS is.
