Technically, shouldn't the headline be 'Cinemas refuse to show any religious or political adverts as they want to remain neutral on all matters'?

Pretty much what I thought. The company distributing the ads doesn't allow for ANY political or religious advertising so it's a complete non-story.

This

Several times a year we get pretty much the same story. "Company applies blanket policy to all religious groups. Accused of discrimination"

We see this kind of story in all kinds of places. For example, Apple blamed for exploiting Chinese workers. Well, duh, they are all doing the same thing, you get more clicks if you focus solely on Apple.

So, the CoE has set itself up as a martyr here. They know it’ll be bad press to see them being banned in some way, and they’ve made it all about them. My concern - groups like EDL jumping on this and making out that we can’t have good upright Christianity in a Christian country because it will upset the Muslims (the majority of whom are clearly above such things), we’re being invaded, etc. etc..

Anyway, who wants to see an advert featuring a hinky religion before seeing a film featuring a hinky religion?

There's some who say the Star Wars films are just a two hour advert for a merchandising franchise anyway...

The run up to The Phantom Menace saw me, under NDA (as was the company I worked for) photographing no end of Star Wars tat fora clients web site. We even got to keep some afterwards. I have a Jar Jar Binks mug somewhere.

Already, we know the affiliation of main characters, there's an annoying orange weeble, all because of marketing.

We went into the first Star Wars film knowing nothing by comparison, and it was better for it.

I've did my best to avoid everything but the teaser for that very reason.
