If Paul and Mary leave (with Mel and Sue already gone) I think C4 will be left wondering what they've paid all that money for. It seems insane that the presenters weren't somehow tied into the deal.

Does anyone know what the situation with the presenters is for the spin-off shows that also supposedly come with the deal?
Would be pretty funny for everyone except Love Productions and Channel 4 if no-one of the current presenters and judges sign up for the new version....

Brilliant. I think the only presenters who have declared so far as Mel and Sue. But yeah, it would be very funny if nobody wanted to go over to C4.

All C4 will have is a tent.

That would be an extremely expensive tent. Maybe Love Productions will move it to Benefits Street to add an frisson of excitement.

Maybe they were thinking that people are taking it all a bit too seriously?

I agree, but it fell flat big time.

If the show only pulls in 2-3 million viewers on Ch4, it won't be a failure. It doesn't need to get nearly as high ratings as it does on the BBC to be a success for 4.

Trouble is the perception of what is a failure in the current media climate is rather divorced from reality. C4 GBBO could get very good audiences for a Channel 4 show but because that's still a massive drop from the audiences it's getting on BBC 1, it will be seen as a failure. Unless it gets the kind of audiences that are pretty much unprecedented for C4 - say the same as a Big Brother final when BB was at it's popular peak - it'll get trashed. Media opinion is no longer anything you could possibly describe as 'considered'.

Why should Channel 4 should automatically have a smaller audience than the BBC for the same programme?
Ignoring the fact that all they seem to have bought is the show name and format, if the Talent had come with the show then surely the audience figures should be much the same? Maybe the presence of adverts will put some people off, but AFAICS anyone with either a TV or an internet connection can watch Channel 4 programmes and they don't even have to lie about having a TV Licence to watch on-line!
However the evidence is already there with Formula 1. Nearly all the presenters from the BBC version went to Channel 4, the actual race coverage is from FOM and nothing to do with the broadcaster so why is audience approximately one third smaller now that t's on a different TV channel?

I suspect the existence of S4C, and the fact it doesn't show eveything on the same schedule as Channel 4, may be a small contributory factor.

How to ruin any programme in one easy step. Put adverts in.
So either they'll need a longer show to get the same amount of footage, or they have to cut down what you see, ruining it.
