It will not happen. It certainly will not happen on Sky. Sky are going to have the debate and will probably have to do a "Have I Got News For You" with a tub of lard in all the seats.

It has to be on a TV channel that my Grandma can pick up. She’s not got Freeview or sky, and being in her mid 90’s (and has a mind as sharp as a scalpel) will probably not want to bother until it’s absolutely necessary - in her area (and mine), the digital switch over will be in 2012. So it will have to be BBC1, BC2, ITV, Channel 4 or Channel 5. Anything else will be undemocratic.

It certainly cannot be on Sky 1 because that is not available on Freeview either. It will either be ITV or BBC1.

If it happens, then it has to be on the BBC. That's the entire point of a non-commercial TV network.

What always amazes me is that both channels do election night coverage but the BBC always have higher ratings for what is essentially the same event, and while they do show it differently the public like the BBC version of it. I know I do.

PM 'agrees to Cameron TV debate'

Quote:
Gordon Brown is ready to debate with David Cameron on TV not just during the general election campaign but before it, the BBC understands.

The problem we have with Gordon Brown is that he is not at all tele-genic. Cameron, for all his smarm, looks better on TV. He seems more comfortable, and doesn’t have a nervous tick that makes him look like a retard. Brown, on the other hand, is in danger of coming out badly. He may be able to run rings around Cameron in a debate, but if his teeth fall out, who’s going to remember what was said? (note for younger viewers: MIchael Foot, leader of the Labour Party, lost his teeth whilst delivering an important speech)

Gordon should not be allowed to smile:

TBH I expect Labour to get so horribly shafted at the next election I intend to record Election Night to archive forever as the year Labour got shafted and the Tories ran away with the election.

England's going blue. Not even all those Labour-'til-I-die idiots in Scotland and Wales can save Broon now.

But that is why I think that there will be a leadership challenge before then. The backbench Labour MP's have nothing to lose now. It is either Gordon or them. Gordon will lose that argument.

You don't think it might be a very pale blue indeed, watered down with a splash of yellow, green and whatever colours independent candidates choose?

More of the same but a different colour is not going to sort out the mess this country is in, I'm afraid. If this country votes in the Eton Rifles at the next election, I shall set up an independent state starting at the end of my road. Passport to Pimlico, anyone?

Yes we are screwed no matter who wins, but the Tories will make things worse. They will have to make serious numbers redundant to get anywhere near balance departmental books. Much of the education budget is wages, and that applies to many segments of the government. Wage freezes will be essential and higher taxes essential. The public need to decide whether they want taxes or NHS. Maybe this time the Tories can dismantle it. One Bank of England advisor has stated that the Tories will add another several hundred thousand to unemployment figures on top of what is expected already.
