Remember playing the original wipeout, was kind of fun.

You should get it then. It's an utterly astounding game on pretty much every level. It throws stuff on screen as fast as your TV can take it (1080p at 60FPS possibly), the graphics are pretty stunning, the sound & music are excellent, the enemy driver AI is good without being 'cheaty' and there's tons of stuff to do both on and offline. It was utterly bonkers value for a tenner but for free, unless you really, really hate driving games, it's an absolute must.

+1 on that. I paid a tenner for it, and it’s money well spent IMHO. Getting it for free is excellent.

Maybe I will switch to that then now I can do 1080p. :D

I've just been reading that.

I reset mine yesterday via the sytem update, got a confirmation that it was successful. Do I have to redo again FFS?

Edit: Looks like they've taken the sign in offline again.

I've deleted billing info from my PSN account (didn't realise it was still there) and have set up a new email address just for PSN.

Not so sure about that one personally. Coincidence does not imply causality. Every time one of the console makers issues a newsworthy firmware update, a few days afterwards we get a press story 'OMG! Firmware update X is killing consoles!' Every. Single. Time.

1) A given number of consoles fail every day. This is just a fact. 5%, 3%, whatever. On the day after the firmware comes out, 3% of consoles will fail. Obviously, that's because of the firmware update isn't it? No. It's because 3% were going to fail that day anyway. You're seeing a coincidence and reading it as consequence.

2) Older consoles (of both the major 'next gen' brands) were manufactured in a less sound way than the current models. The 360 more so than the PS3 but the fact is older PS3s are more fragile than new ones. As time goes by, the chance of your old console going pop gradually increases. Therefore, in the 3% above, there will actually be a higher percentage of old consoles than the population as a whole would suggest. So therefore the story now is 'OMGWTF! Firmware X is killing OLD consoles'. No, You're seeing a coincidence modified by probability and reading it as a consequence.

Consoles fail. Some consoles will fail after having their firmware upgraded. That doesn't mean the firmware killed them. If the firmware actually did kill consoles, you'd see masses of them. Tens of thousands. Instantly. We aren't.

I'd advise you to read 'Bad Science' by Ben Goldacre. There's a well written chapter in there about how the press do this with all sorts of statistics and coincidences, all the time. with much worse things than video games too.

Jon

Some clarification by Sony, no hack apparently.

Quote:
Clarification: this maintenance doesn't affect PSN on consoles, only the website you click through to from the password change email.

Quote:
We temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page. Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.

Consumers who haven’t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3. Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up.

Struggled to get online with F1 2010 last night but that may down to a problem my end as there were plenty of organized races taking place according to the screen.

Thanks for reminding me about it. Completely forgotten that I hadn't finished the book (got through the first couple of chapters). So far hasn't told me anything new but does provide info in a way that makes it easier to explain to others.
