Not everyone has a room layout that would be conducive to allowing it to scan the room. I think it is an idea waiting for a purpose.

Yes but like many when they are inside they fail to see the impact of what they are doing, or simply become yes men.

All of these are indicators of what Sony is probably up to.

Bar the design and any issue around pre-owned, that's exactly what they're at. All Sony have to do is tell the developers to get a grip on the pre-owned BS and they've got an immediate leg-up.

Quite a lot of them are things Sony has already announced.

That presentation was rather underwhelming. Half an hour that basically boils down to 'your XBox is an all-in-one remote you can talk to', someone gibbering on mostly about sports nobody outside the US cares about and two exclusive games, one of which has the number '5' on the end. All in a box that looks rather like a first generation BluRay player from about seven years ago. All in all... meh. At least Sony showed some sodding games being played.

Always-online requirement is optional for Xbox One devs

By the sound of the pre-owned bollocks though, your system's gonna be dialling out all the time - maybe that's why it's so big and heavily vented

I just saw the Xbox on the BBC website and when I saw the design, I couldn't help but laugh out loud! It looks like an ugly big black box. At least the PS3 had curves.

I had to remind myself of the 360's controller and TBH the One's looks chunky like the machine itself.

I don't have any Xbox 360 games so backwards compatibility isn't an issue. The mandatory fee for a new install of a secondhand game - could be silly but might not be depending on price. If it's low eg £1, less of an issue. If it's anything like £5, I won't bother. However, the fact that you can play without the disc is a bit odd. Theoretically, I could get a brand new game off a friend, install it for a "small fee" which would undoubtedly be cheaper than new.

I suspect that the fee will be higher otherwise it will be abused with new games. It could be blocked for a year after launch, then becomes £1. Though doing that will have an impact on second hand values and so act like a ban on second hand games and seriously erode first sales. Any fee would simply be included in the sale price and so again kill the resale market and then first time sales because of the fee.

The skill matching is logical, and the background loading is fine, unless you have a dodgy connection. Who actually has 1000 friends? As a solo player nothing there appeals to me at all.

New matchmaking tech MS calls "Smart Match" will give you an estimated wait time on finding other players in a multiplayer game, and allow you to engage in other activities while you wait, such as watch TV or Skype.

You know what? If it takes that long to find other players, I'd probably just bugger off and do something else.

The new system will also track your skill levels more accurately to find you equally-capable opponents

Again, I'd rather just get a game with good connections. I tried playing CoD on PS3 tonight and the connections and lags were attrocious - to the point where I just stopped playing. I don't mind being up against a better class of players. What drives me nuts is seeing a target, emptying an entire clip into them and suddenly I've died and respawned with no idea of what just happened.

It's alright, they have 300,000 servers. Given the reaction to the presentation, that'll pretty much work out at one each.

Could that be more down to the ISP than the game servers?
