But the former Sony figurehead insisted that the Xbox One system is "exactly the same as owning a physical disc", adding that it's "just the method of distributing the 'bits' [that] slightly changes".

It seems more drastic than that.

I'd guess so.

I don't know how these companies continually mess up their own events; how can you be so crap at this point?

I've never ever owned a games console. I might get one this time, purely as the life cycle is so long.

That is probably a good reason though with the possible problems with second hand games I might not bother with another console.

In practice it means that players could pay up to full price for a second-hand copy of a game, and that friends will not be allowed to lend games to each other without an additional fee paid to Microsoft.

That in effect will lead to the end of the second hand market, and I suspect that once people buy a second hand game and get stung they will start to trade in or return their consoles. That will really hurt the market. I doubt that they have thought this through.

"By tying the awards and achievements to particular items of video or advertising content, viewers may be encouraged to increase their viewership of the content, thus increasing advertising opportunities."

Achievements could be dished out for watching a single event such as the Super Bowl or viewing an entire series of a show, it adds.

Potential rewards include new avatar items, virtual money for a game, or even physical prizes.

Will anyone actually sign up for this? Last thing I want is people to know what I watch.

They're starting from an incorrect assumption (that families still sit down and watch broadcast TV together). Anything that spawns off that - like achievements for watching adverts or god knows what else - is just the mouldy cherry on top of the sh!t sundae.

The most popular TV network in the USA is Netflix. Their whole premise is flawed.

I have to agree. Many families have multiple TV's so everyone watches something different. My TV is on so rarely that every time I put the TV on it does an update. I think that they are seriously out of date.

Region locking is just a way for forcing people to pay high prices. It does nothing to combat piracy.

I was thinking of why? I could only come up with keeping prices high in Europe and stopping cheap US versions appearing here. What additional dialogue or translations are required for Aussie or Brit versions?
