using the budget calculator on the BBC web site the wife and i are about £500 a year better off tax wise ...

Compared to one of our main competitors, Germany, we're perfoming very poorly.

Edit: Lol, and the show stopping 1p drop in fuel? Many reports came in about petrol stations putting their prices up by 1p in the morning so they could drop them at 6pm by 1p so there would be no overall change. The Chancellor admits there's nothing he can do about that.

And this after a budget for growth? The forecasts are probably optimistic as many people are still struggling with debts and stagnant incomes, dreading an interest rate rise, which will come sooner or later.

And have been for years. We have coped because of a debt fuelled spending bubble paid for with every larger debts. Germany has not
