No [LIFTED] sherlock.

Second mention - please watch your language - Blue

Oh come on, not only is this ruining the flow of (some of) my posts, but the word s**t is allowable in PG rated films.

I accept the f & c word area bit extreme (for daily mail reading pussies) so I'll refrain from using them (until this all blows over meh heh heh heh).

Seriously though WTF, how about banning people that put +1 to someone else's comment, that adds nothing to a debate or discussion and serves only to increase lazy/stupid peoples post counts and makes reading threads harder than necessary.

Irrelevant of whether adding +1 to a topic is useful, it's not against the rules and it can express your agreement with a topic albeit in a very simple way.

Again, regardless of where the word s**t is allowed it's against the rules here and so the post was edited.

Vitaminz: This is nothing personal against anyone, especially not new users. If I see a word that I consider offensive (including those with 1 replacing i) I'll generally edit them. If you spot anything that you think should be modified then by all means drop one of the mods/admins an email and we'll do our best to attend to it.

I don't really want to take up any more of this thread with filtering issues, but if anyone wants to contact me about ways to improve, have a moan, tell me I'm an idiot etc please feel free to drop me a PM. I reply to them all ;)

Are you Earlybomblight ?

No I'm not, I went by Dodge1963 for a bit on the PCPro forums, but that's the only other moniker I've used other than LaptopAcidXperience.

I do remember the name Earlybomblight though, why do ask?

You just reminded me of him...in a good way. Remember his name and what he wrote. I used to read through those giant, Mac vs PC threads on PC Pro, never registered though, also used to read through the Mac User stuff when was contemplating buying a Mac (which I didn't).

I'd be interested in seeing where you read that.

This was a 2 second Scroogle - http://www.i-sis.org.uk/CRSFV.php

There's tons more about if you care to look for it. Giving Baxter immunity was far too obvious a move. Why should I take something I'm unsure about and waive any legal recourse if something goes wrong. That's ludicrous.

You list the process for season flu vaccines. Well, I'm in an "at risk" group because I have asthma. I'm offered the jab every year, and every year I decline. I'm yet to catch flu. I know other asthma sufferers who had the jab and then had flu. Circumstantial, clearly. However, add everything up and the point is that this vaccine is not a good idea. Combined with the fact that the story I posted is actually acknowledging things were exaggerated for gain, paints an interesting picture in my view.

Horizon last night was interesting. It was about viruses and why the do (or don’t) kill. Worth catching on iPlayer before it vanishes.

Oh, your next disease worry: Monkey Pox. I wish I was joking.

There was a small outbreak in the US some years ago, the people who had it all had Prairie dogs as pets.

That link uses the old pseudoscience trick of using realistic looking references to an organisation with some interesting views and then switches to using proper peer-reviewed articles. :)

Do you have any articles from somewhere like the BMJ or even New Scientist?

I'd be very interested to know if a [lifted] up of that scale would be covered by the immunity.

They may have caught a different strain to the one that was in that year's vaccine. Vaccines lower the probability of catching a disease, not eliminate the risk. This lowering of the chance of disease transmission is what can stop an epidemic and turn it a small outbreak that affects just a few people; I remember modeling vaccines and disease resistance that in Mathcad as part of my degree.

I think it is the WHO who should be answering that, it's their surveillance teams that make that kind of call.

My understanding is that H1N1 was very deadly in South America when the first cases came to light which is why the alarm first was raised. For some reason it was less serious in other countries which is why we're having the debate on this thread.

I believe the strains in question were H5N1 & H3N2, not H1N1.

The dcscience site hardly provides a credible rebuff of the ISIS, just casts a few aspersions, not that I'm saying there's nothing in them, actually I am.

Not going down the root of paranoia but anyone with half a brain knows the whole swine flu thing was bullsh*t.
