Has anyone actually seen this ash for themselves? We've had lovely clear skies here in Aber, even though we were predicted to have the cloud over us by 6pm yesterday...

You should get light deposits over night tonight. I think it was the outer islands of Scotland that have had so far. Most of the UK will have a dusting overnight. Mark

A friend is trying to fly home tomorrow. The best they've been offered so far is a flight on Tuesday. To Stockholm. I guess it's closer to the UK than Egypt...

I am actually enjoying having clear skies and if the sister volcano erupts then the skies will be plane free for a lot longer than a few days. I do hope that someone is doing some research to see how the lack of planes is actually affecting the atmosphere.

After 11/9 there were reports that days were hotter and nights were cooler because of the lack of air traffic. No doubt the meteorological offices and/or greens are feverishly trying to make the front page.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

So can we make this permanent?

Not sure you'll notice any difference, I mean the volcano isn't spewing fairy dust into the sky.

They did after 9/11 I believe as all plane travel in the US was grounded for a reasonable amount of time. It's only something I dimly recall reading about, cannot quote a source a tall. If memory serves there were noticeable changes in weather patterns as a result.

I know that the ash will have a cooling effect. Though in this case barely noticeable because of the low amounts but normally it dims the sun getting through to the surface. I am still enjoying not seeing any contrails in the sky.

Aye, it is kind of nice and peaceful. Trouble is my GFs family are due over in 5 or so weeks.... The last time this volcano erupted in the 1800s it went on for over a year AFAIK

Was gonna wash the car, but will but waiting until tomorrow for the time being. Who's the furthest South to have actually seen a dusting?

Yes it must have had an appalling impact on flights then.

It's not just about the individual. Supermarkets get produce flown in. Post gets delivered to NI by plane. It's really much more far reaching than people coming/going on holiday. Mark
