Although the cops appear at least to me to overreact it will be interesting to hear the outcome and the details we havent been told. It sounds like the car might have hit one of the coppers which I wouldnt be best pleased with. If - and i'm speculating - this guy had a bad attitude and was giving abuse for being stopped, etc, then clipped a copper when driving off before they'd finished, then wouldnt stop for a few miles until the spike strip was brought out, I could understand the tactic. Just because he's a bit older doesnt make him innocent and/or a nice bloke.

But.... I dont know what's true and what isnt. The video certainly looks like the cops went hell for leather at the car but then thats all we see. We dont see anything what happened before.

if he did hit a copper on the way out why was that not given as the reason for the chase? It does beg the question why was the copper standing so close to a moving vehicle? Is he an idiot? I am brain damaged and know to get away from the front and rear of a car with its engine running.

If he had a bad attitude that is still not an offence. Chances are he did give them some lip.

If he did not stop for a few miles then he was not paying attention to the conditions. Though that was not brought up as a charge either. It would be interesting if the car chase footage was shown to the magistrate?

Also why resort to the stinger straight away. They could have simply put a policeman in the road stopping the traffic. If he had dodged that then yes the stinger would be completely appropriate. This looks more like damaging the car as much as possible rather than a proper menace on the road.

Also from the accounts the man never mentioned the tinted glass as a problem before. It was brought up in court. That looks like malicious prosecution to me.

Because he'd already failed to stop?

See here for chase footage.

Where? At the original place where he was stopped?

I thought the police followed had to follow him for a few miles before they stung the tyres? I've not seen the footage/read the article for a few days so I may be wrong.

Maybe when this guy got back in his car he shouted "and dont even think of trying to pull me over again 'cos I wont [LIFTED] stop".

I'm not saying he did. In fact I think its highly unlikely. But the whole 'coppers went overboard and are bastards' argument is based on not knowing what happened on that day.

This.

I have accept Amnesia's point that the Dibble don't look very good in this case. However my assessment is based on second- and third-hand accounts and out-of-context video clips. I wasn't there and I don't actually know what really happened.

My perspective is, regardless of the circumstances, this behaviour is almost certainly overly aggressive. The guy has stopped, take a chill pill and think about what you're doing. They are all acting on pure adrenaline there and that's my problem.

And it is why I think it looks bad for the police. The offences for which he was charged with are very minor.
