Likewise the driver of the second vehicle had nothing to do with anti-religious cartoonery, so was also not a target.

Here in Germany the PEGIDA movement have used it as ammunition to try and get more press time and to justify their anti-Muslim stance. The AFD and other right wing political parties are also trying to turn the events to their advantage.

Accounts from a survivor said that it isn't true, they walked into the direction room and shot everyone there then walked out of the building again.

Yeah, I picked that up on N24 earlier this morning...

French commandoes have stormed the building so hopefully the original two have had their quest for martyrdom ended.

Good.

Plus initial reports say the hostage is safe which really is a bonus.

If all the hostages got out alive then that's a genuinely good result and a resounding congratulations to the French security services that pulled it off.

The vindictive part of me would have prefered for them to be taken alive, tried and imprisoned so they wouldn't have the satisfaction (if that's the right word) of martyrdom but I certainly won't be losing any sleep over it.
May all the virgins they receive be Anne Widicome or similar.

Presumably those powers will require further infringements of our rights, all for the good of our safety of course.

From what I've seen, the requested increases in power were all for things the French do already and which failed to stop this attack

There's a huge possibility that's actually a mis-translation.

Have a read here:

Also, as a bonus, some of it is unintentionally hilarious.

I'm not sure attempting to jump on 'Je Suis Charlie' is the best way to do so, but the gist of the piece is unquestionable.

One of the victims was Ahmed Merabet, a French police officer who was shot and killed. He was Muslim. He died as he fought to defend a publication known for insulting his culture and religion. He didn’t discriminate. He didn’t hesitate. He most likely never knew what he was dying for, but he did it, rushing to the scene, because it was the right thing to do.

This isn’t about Islam. It’s about a terrorist group trying to shut down free speech. This was so-called Muslims killing indiscriminately, even when Ahmed kneeled on the ground and asked, “Do you want to kill me?”

Ahmed gave his life to protect the citizens of his country. Let’s honor his sacrifice, by speaking out. Muslims shouldn’t have to defend their religion saying, “As a Muslim I condemn this attack.” As humans, we all condemn this attack. As humans, we can judge each other on the things we do — not the color of our skin, our religion, or our nation of birth.

Yup, religion is awesome. Praise God, Allah, Thor, ... I forget which one is the "correct" one.

Apologies for the DM link but I don't give a f*ck.

The problem is, and I said this at work before I read a similar piece on n24 yesterday, that Muslims will get a bad name among the far right and the ignorant. I think it is important that the difference is made is such a crass way. On Twitter there was, allegedly, an image of Ahmed on the ground and one of the terrorists standing over him with a gun. The caption read something along the lines of "If you are confused:" and under the man with the automatic weapon "this is a terrorist" and under the police officer on the ground, "this is a Muslim."

And I'm sure a few hundred years ago, the Muslims had the same sort of opinion of us. "We" went over there, killed indiscriminantly, "we" raped and pillaged, all in the name of "our" god. And yes, Foggy, that means you as well, or do you have a different skin colour to the average Anglo Saxon Christian in Britian? That is the same differentiation as a Jihadist and a normal, average Muslim and a Fundamentalist Christian and a normal Christian and Athiest, you can't see the difference just looking at them, well generally speaking.

Over the years I have had many colleagues and friends who were Muslim, they weren't really any different to you and me, apart from praying more often and watching what they ate.

So, yes, a little crass, but it also puts things a little more into perspective.

What was interesting on N24 was that when the terorists had taken their hostages, the news was continually talking about a "Jewish business", not just a business or a French business, but specifically a Jewish business. What difference does it make, what religion the owner of the business is?

I completely get that. And I know that it is only a small minority of Muslim people who are doing this.

Just like it is only a small minority of Christian people picketing outside of dead soldiers funerals with billboards saying "God hates fags" etc...

How do you explain the public flogging of a guy in Saudi Arabia where there are hundreds of people men, women and children all running to see a guy being whipped all over his body because he had a Facebook page that insulted Islam? Is it that the tiny minority all happened to be in that one place at the same time? Seems like a massive coincidence if that was the case.

Again though, I know that similar hints happen in the name of other gods. And skin colour has got next to nothing to do with it.

I have nothing against Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Sikhism, etc...

Just keep it to yourself. Don't try to indoctrinate your kids. Don't harm other people if they don't agree. Your beliefs are yours. Don't go f*cling around with other people's lives because of them.
