Well, it's generally a good idea to ask your customers before you launch the product...

+1 They must have had had focus groups.

I'm sure they did listen to their focus groups and comities.

My point is, people complained, they listened and made the changes people said they wanted, and still people complain. Surely it's better to make these changes before release? The truth is that people will complain whatever they do.

I think Microsoft has a particularly difficult time with Windows. Users want to be able to run legacy devices and still want ultra lean code.

With respect to the new XBox I do not play MP but the always on aspects of the Kinect were stupid. Including a Kinect as standard does make sense from a long term perspective in terms of making games that need the Kinect to run. They really never thought it through from a customers perspective. Including all these additional features might have made sense from a corporate perspective in terms of selling services in future but unless you are told the entire roadmap these seem over bearing.

From an anti piracy perceptive they botched the PR perspective. No genuine customer would object to a simple check to ensure that it was a genuine game but the 24/7 always on approach was crazy.

Whilst it makes sense in terms of stopping the RROD issues they had with the 360, what doesn't make sense is why don't they just design it better to dramatically reduce the risk of overheating? Larger fans, more vents, better thermal compound etc?

Hmmm...one of the commenters suggested it was to ensure adequate numbers of units in the "preferred" countries eg US, UK to maximise sales. Which kind of makes sense. If you can't make enough Xbones, then at least try to ensure you have the majority where you're gonna make the most money.

Maybe they got their fingers burnt with over production of the Surface Tablet?

Xbox 360 DLC season passes transferable to Xbox One

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/42 ... -xbox-one/
...

Nintendo must pay $15m to ex-Sony engineer over 3DS

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/42 ... -over-3ds/

I wonder if they're profiting on the console itself yet, it took one hell of a price drop.
...

PS4 will make $1.2bn each year from PS Plus, analyst estimates

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/42 ... estimates/

I seriously doubt those figures!
