I wonder if they're profiting on the console itself yet, it took one hell of a price drop.

3DS? Probably. Your suspicion is probably correct that they lost money initially, but they've sold shedloads of them now and haven't had much of a price drop since then, so they've pocketed any savings due to hardware revisions. NIntendo famously don't 'loss lead' their hardware anyway, so the price drop was probably 'less profit' rather than 'bigger loss'.

I seriously doubt those figures!

Basic sale revenue is 40 quid per subscriber per year so they'd need 30 million subscribers. Thats an awful lot given I think the PS3 has only sold roughly that many units total, although they'll probably get more subbers for PS4 PS+ than PS3 PS+ because it's required for multiplayer. I suspect they're including some guesstimate of how much money they'll make as a share of revenue from sales of games & DLC that has a discounted price for PS+ers but isn't 'free'.

The number doesn't strike me as out of range at some point if the PS4 is successful and they steal market share from MS. They won't make anywhere near that much in the first couple of years though.

That is still very optimistic. If they are expecting every single customer signing up to a PS+ account. I might have an XBox Live account but have done nothing with it and have not paid for it.

First, he reiterated that all Xbox One games are region free, which isn't the case on Xbox 360.

That is a big plus.

On a daily basis now I'm swinging from definitely not ordering a new console to will be getting one on release day.

I am still wavering. I think that the Xbox and 360 will be enough for me for a while. I am not 100% sure about the pre owned restrictions as they stand. They may not be an issue but it could be an expensive mistake if it is.

My intention is to keep the PS3 for GT6 but if I can clear out some 360 games in the meantime then......

I've got PS2 games I still haven't played... Also the launch line-ups don't do anything for me personally, and it'll be months before there's anything I want, likely. I'll maybe get a PS4 by the time it's £150 and on it's third iteration

It's the launch line ups that put me off but I've never bought a day one console before so think it would be a bit of a novelty.

I keep wanting to buy a PS4 but TBH only one of my friends has preordered. I'd rather wait until version 2 comes out and we can see what Sony has had in store for us. Wouldn't surprise me if they did some U-turns on various things.

As it stands, I plan on sticking to PC gaming for now and finish playing all of my PS3 games.

I have no idea of what games are planned but like you I will probably wait for months before even considering buying. I will want a decent number of games so that it becomes worth getting. I am very selective with the games that I buy so will wait until there are half a dozen suitable games before I actually buy.

CVG Sources: Microsoft to reveal 'major game' comes free with Xbox One

It'll need to be good to waft away the stench that lingers around the One. And how much is that name biting now?

It's true, the exclusives look a fcuksight better than what Sony's offering. Very good trailer too.

They're not exactly likely to say anything else really though are they?

Don't be surprised if their GC presentation goes like this though

The announcement of a free game at launch is nothing new. It does make sense for them to get people using it straight away. It will be interesting to see what they choose as the free game.
