The announcement of a free game at launch is nothing new. It does make sense for them to get people using it straight away. It will be interesting to see what they choose as the free game.

The rumour seems to be FIFA 14. I'm sceptical personally but if it is it suggests one of two things..

A) Microsoft have given EA a staggering amount of money to do it.
or
B) EA believe the XBox One is going to sell in such mediocre numbers that it's not too much of a loss to them to take an up-front payment rather than sales.

Plus of course FIFA 14 as a pack-in does little for the US market and the XBox One so far as been a pretty US-centric product. If it's FIFA 14 in Europe and Madden in the US, then I can only imagine how much money EA will have demanded for that.

And there is the point that

PS4+FIFA 14 = £390
XBox One + 'free' FIFA 14 = £430

Of course, knowing MS's luck this generation, it will also turn out to be a year when PES is the much better game...

Xbox One at Gamescom: Indies, Fable Legends, Call of Duty: Ghosts

Quote:
Independent developers will be able to get stuck into Microsoft's new initiative, ID@Xbox, which will provide creators with a proper platform to showcase their work.

Registered developers will have access to two free Xbox One development kits, while being able to include features such as SmartGlass and multiplayer options.
...

Then it was time to move onto the big names, and Microsoft made a lot of people happy with the announcement of Fable Legends from Lionhead Studios, which will arrive as an Xbox One exclusive.

The game is designed for four player co-op, but with a neat twist – another player takes the role of the villain, controlling hoards of enemies.

There was also some more details on Call of Duty: Ghosts, with Activision announcing that the game will have dedicated servers powered by Xbox Live cloud.

Microsoft also announced a Call of Duty: Ghosts premium Xbox One bundle which will see the game thrown in with the console, however no price was given.

Some very good moves there. I wonder will PS4 eventually get it's own dedicated CoD servers? It's infuriating relying on the world's idiots

^^^Completely agree, which is why I'm holding off buying a PS4 at the moment. I hate the fact that it relies on a player's server and at least half the time picks someone who has a crappy connection.

Some good moves there, though MS ran away with the game announcements. If Music Unlimited was worth a fcuk the CoD gamers would love it!

I'd love to know what those BB deals are; I mean it's basically traffic-shaping that's usually done already, no matter what the buggers claim.

They're pushing PSN now that you'll have to pay for it for online gaming  , and fcuk knows the Vita needs it and that price drop.

Yeah. So much prominence for indie games made it all feel a bit one note.

Both Xbox One and PS4 vendors reserve right to control RRPs, yet devs claim Sony is more flexible

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/42 ... r-to-sony/

Well that sucks balls - there's any number of indie titles I'd have risked the cash on if they'd been a bit cheaper. £8 for something that's likely overrated, pretentious crap, or £13 for a delivered disc that essentially had millions spent on it's production and that I can return if I want, hmmm...
