They might disappear one day. I have bought more via the Apple App store because of the flexibility to load a game on to a number of machines. I like that feature, no need to worry about reclaiming license to transfer to another machine. I am unaware of how steam does it but iOS is seamless and does not require a connection. So if you are in a wifi blackspot the game will still play unless it is an online game.

I suspect that they seized it on the basis that it resembled their trademark. So no payment would have been made.

Console war will 'reinvigorate' flagging industry, says Sony boss http://www.computerandvideogames.com/42 ... sony-boss/I'd like to point out that the 'physical games' waning market probably shouldn't be read as 'the future's digital!'. None of the big three clearly have total faith in that. Secondly, a lot of publishers refused to adapt AND released utterly broken minor updates and/or just plain crap. THQ spent a small fortune making Darksiders 2 and seemingly never thought to test it! GAME to this day deserves to die on it's arse; it's still making little in the way of cash seemingly since it's still obsessed with ripping off people via second-hand games. And their website's even worse in some ways. Free to play will probably always have a future but it just won't work for the mainstream the way console games traditionally do, and franchises will come and go every couple of years. That last bit's probably even more true for mobile games. They require far more constant innovation than standard console fare but you can pretty much forget getting rich off the average title.

I think the logic is based on a couple of misconceptions. If you look at the total amount of money spent on games then yes, a bigger and bigger chunk of it is spent on digital purchases be it at Steam, PSN, XBL or the various mobile device app stores. That's pretty indisputable. However what you're actually looking at is share of an expanding market. 33% of a market is as good as 66% of a market half the size. Physical gaming is fine as long as it's making more money year on year, even assuming digital has gone from nothing to something over that time.
The second misconception is the assumption that money in digital purchases is 'lost money' to physical purchases. That's plainly bunk. Somebody buying Angry Birds on an iPhone probably isn't going to have bought Gears of War 3 on the XBox if Angry Birds didn't exist. The digital market and the physical market are not mutually exclusive.

There is also the issue of price. An Angry Birds game at £1.99 is going to sell well because if the game is crap it is only £1.99 lost, but the impact for the developer could be fatal as it will be forever known as the one that produced the crap Angry Birds game. Spending £60 on a console game is another matter. It needs to be good and with digital downloads you need to price competitively to make up for the fact that it is not as transferrable as a physical disk. There are many who buy and sell games quite rapidly so in effect are renting them. If they came out with a cheap rental model for console games they might end the need to sell games at all.

So JApan will actually be getting the PS4 last, pretty much. There's a turn-around.

Gaikai to stream PS3 games to PS4 and Vita http://www.computerandvideogames.com/43 ... -and-vita/As the comments say, price will be key. I certainly wouldn't accept it not recognising games you'd bought digitally and physically, or having to pay a fee for those. ... PlayStation 4 sales target is 5 million by March http://www.computerandvideogames.com/43 ... -by-march/I've no idea if that's conservative, out there or what ... PS4 app can be used to stream mobile games to devices http://www.computerandvideogames.com/43 ... o-devices/I haven't a clue what they're on about and the vid won't load ... My suspicion is it'll be a netflix stylee 'pay set fee, play whatever you want' rather than individual game rental. Possibly even thrown in with PS+. I doubt there'll be every PS3 game in there at the start though. I suspect it's fairly conservative. The Wii U apparently sold three million over that kind of period after launch and is considered a pretty massive flop.
