Dan Snow managed to get 25 people before they were shut down with no reason given.

That has made me somewhat suspicious in a conspiracy theory sort of way...

I would like to see how many businesses realise they can continue without business related travel, especially when they see how much it costs them. There are some necessary trips of course, but many simple meetings can be easily be done by other means.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Yes but it is not as easy as that. I suspect that the supermarkets will be looking for supplies closer to home. Fruit flown in from asia will be a problem and the supermarket that solves it will have a big advantage.

I was in a farm shop earlier and they had a map on the wall showing all their suppliers locations - all can be driven to in under an hour.

Farm shops will do well and so will local greengrocers. They buy locally. It could be good for local traders as people get back to old traditional habits of buying in season. it is also cheaper.

I was talking about business trips and not commercial export/import. When it comes to produce buy local and in season (which are very much extended due to poly-tunnels).

I expect much will be delayed until they can feel safe getting there and back. It might take a time.

No chance mate.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mount Katla has started erupted by then. That's a larger volcano under a nearby glacier that kicked off last time the current volcano erupted for a long period.

Try http://www.gotomeeting.com

We use it for a lot of meetings here, saves us about 6 hours travel between the different sites. You get a 30 day free trial, so nothing to lose.

Not so sure about the bigger volcano erupting by then but I would think about driving and ferry. Eindhoven is not that far from the channel ports so could be driven, but make sure that you have funds for an emergency stay just in case no ferries back because of over-booking

I suspect there are almost as many people trying to get out (i.e. to mainland europe) as there are trying to get back. Wouldn't surprise me if the ferries going out were full as well.

In fact that is probably the case. Alternatively you could always ask Dan Snow if you can go over in his speed boats. ;)
