It was but I believe it disappeared some time around 10.4 and there has been a rather grumpy campaign to bring it back ever since. It's the Mac OS equivalent of the wispa bar.

Are we talking about the same thing? The Sat or Mon or Fri in front of the clock on the right end of the menu bar?

If we are, then I can happily report that it's never gone away. I always have it showing, and it's been there since I migrated to OSX back around 10.2.

The setting is there...

Ah, I get it. The Show Date options.

I never missed them. The day of the week option was in the general view settings.

What a thing to get exercised about. Why would I want the date showing in the menu bar? I can generally remember what the date is, and now they fixed iCal it's showing in the Dock anyway!

In OS 8 and 9 you could set it to show the time and date alternately, which was only slightly less annoying than QuarkXPress 4 crashing again.

Having the menubar remind you what day it is is one thing but I draw the line at it having it remind you what your name is :D.

Gav got the standard "upgrade" version.

I got the Tiger one back in the day. Because I bought a new Mac within 14 days of a new OS was release, I could get it for £7.99. It's just you didn't get the fancy packaging with it, just a jiffy bag.
