Quote:
Working women who thought they might live to see Britain's pay gap finally close will have to hold out another 57 years, according to research published today.

Forty years after the Equal Pay Act was passed, the study shows that the gender pay gap remains stubborn and that male and female managers will not be paid the same until 2067.

Women have also been harder hit by the recession, with more female workers than men being made redundant in the past 12 months, the research by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) shows.

The reason that they have suffered more is that they have been in public sector roles and that they are being savaged by the Coalition cuts. Also equal pay does exist within the same job, but trying to compare cleaners with dustbin men or other skills within the same organisation is rubbish. Also men haggle harder when it comes to wages. Women being more pragmatic prefer something rather than nothing where as a man would hold out for a better deal. Nothing to do with inequality other than what is biologically there already. Harvard did a review of its ex MBA students and found that the men got more than 20% more because they took the quoted starting salary as a starting position for negotiation, whereas the women took it as the final offer. You can never legislate that effect out.

I agree with you Amnesia. A lot of the comparisons I see are cleaner gets less than a lawyer, kind of a No S*** Sherlock. When a male cleaner earns more than a female cleaner, or a male lawyer earns more than a female lawyer, then we can talk.

For some jobs, shelf filler, cleaner, meter maid, the jobs have standard pay. In other jobs, you are on performance related pay. I always had performance related pay and I earned more than many women of my grade, but some of them did earn more than me.

If the fixed pay scale jobs differentiate between men and women, then they deserve to he hauled over the coals.
