Commodore have announced that they will be releasing a new Commodore (PC)64 in time for Chrimstmas.

The new machine will come in an exact replica of the original C64 case, but will be powered by an Atom processor and nVidia Ion chipset, with 1TB hard drive and 6-in-1 card reader.

We do get the distinct impression, however, that Commodore USA is flying by the seat of its pants. When we phoned Barry Altman this morning, he initially told us he wasn't Barry Altman. ®

Reading that article makes him sound like that rubbish lawyer in The Simpsons:

Its not a C64 is it though. Its not even a Commodore. Its wintel PC hardware in a C64 case/keyboard.

Seems like a good place to re-post this classic - http://www2.b3ta.com/heyhey16k/

I meant to ask - is Chrimstmas on the 25th of December, like Christmas is over here? ;)

It will be made by Commodore (the new company) and be in a Commodore case, how much more Commodore do you want? The Vic=20, Plus 4, C16, PET range, Amiga and IBM PC clones they made weren't C64s either, but they were Commodores...

More than an Atom chip in a case that size anyway.
You'd have though they'd try and put in some half decent components. It looks as though they're doing it as cheaply as possible to cash in on the name.

It's a dual-core Atom though and the graphics chipset should handle HD IRRC... all in, it's probably a lot bigger and more powerful than what the majority of people have now I'd have thought :|

Apparently, this:
http://www.amazon.com/Commodore-64-Game ... B000701CSM
is a proper C64 inside the case, and you can solder a keyboard to it.

It’s fascinating that this old kit has an appeal, almost 30 years on. Get ye all to Bletchley Park and look at the National Museum of Computing.

I'm sure someone did all of this before. Though that would have been a modder, not a company.
