Now I love cricket but this does not really surprise me as the Pakistan players are paid very poorly so the temptation to make a quick buck must be huge.

If you look back at some of their recent results then you have to think this match fixing has been going on for a while now.

It's been misreported a little. It's not 'match fixing' as the actions had no influence to speak of on the result of the game. What it is is conspiracy to defraud, which is actually a more serious legal offense.

I suspect it's partly a sign of how dispirited the Pakistani team is. if they thought they stood a chance of winning they wouldn't feel the need, but the fact is they probably knew they were going to get spanked so they might as well make something out of a bad situation.

There's rumours going around that their families were kidnapped to force them to do it. How true that is of course, we'll probably never know.

More likely threats, but since there are lots of betting syndicates in the Far East as well, who bet on anything that they can rig you have to accept that it might be true. Remember the football betting scandal here with Malaysian betting syndicates?
