Yip, I came close to being knocked down by an ambulance (the irony) a few months ago cos I had the earphones blasting AC/DC to try and wake me up - I was heading to the land of gobsh1tes (work), hadn't had much sleep and just generally wasn't in a mood conducive to paying attention... Also, those two sets of traffic lights have caused enough car accidents without an ambulance speeding through at 7.30am

If you're going to get hit by something, that's what you want to get hit by. ;)

That is the definition of good luck.

I only listen to podcasts or audio books on my iPhone and I tend to only wear one ear bud when out and about...

I mainly listen to them at home over the speakers and airtunes. I usually listen to music on the iPod (both ears and noise cancelling earbuds) when out and about.

I can't abide earbuds anyway, so it means the 'phones I use let a lot of ambient noise through.

Yes but I am apparently on a death wish.

Is that deliberate on your part?

If it's annoying and you don't mind the inner ear rubber bit, even the cheapest Sennheisers are great :)

Quite deliberate. First, no matter what, I find earbuds damned uncomfortable after about 30 seconds. Second, I actually like to hear what's going on around me when I'm a public space.

One of the reasons I got the set I did was they gave you a selection of inner-ear thingies as I usually find these things uncomfortable too :)

I'm the opposite, I like to drown out those around me, usually ;)

I find white Apple set, that comes with the iphone or ipod, extremely uncomfortable after a very short period of time. I bought some Sennheiser replacements and can happily wear them for a couple of hours or more.

Back on topic... If you're stupid enough to get skittled by traffic, because you weren't paying attention, then you deserve what you get. Darwin FTW.

I tend not to listen to music when walking around as much as I used to. But when I did, I would have in-ear buds. Despite these blaring out music, I would be extra-alert at say crossings, driveways, car parks etc - anywhere where attention is paramount.

If i was walking somewhere a little bit dodgy or concerned, I would turn the volume down or off conpletely.
