It turns out Nintendo was quietly planning a double-barreled assault on piracy this week, as it's released firmware updates for both of its leading consoles over the past 24 hours. We reported earlier that the DSi had just received new firmware, which appears to do nothing but block the use of a number of DSi flash carts - a shot against the console's rampant piracy. Well, the Wii's in for similar treatment. A new firmware update has been released, which Nintendo says provides "behind-the-scenes improvements to Wii Menu 4.3", as it said about the recent DSi update. And also like the DSi update, it adds nothing new. Oddly, it doesn't even change the firmware version number - it's still 4.3. But it does apparently wipe out the Homebrew Channel and any other hack-related software you've slipped onto your Wii, and no doubt makes it a little tougher to reinstall it all again. While we don't condone piracy, if you use the Homebrew Channel for any of its more innocent features, such as for running imported games or media players, we suggest you avoid updating. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ar ... ?id=263746 |

HBC is epic, where else would I find apps to play media files, doubt Ninty will provide them |
