http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11316476 I agree completely with Mister Fry. The Vatican is in no way a real State, and as such Her Majesty's Treasury should not be funding any part of the Pope's visit. |

It's a PITA for many people, in addition to costing the tax payer. Half of London is shut on Friday, and I heard Birmingham Airport is too! I was supposed to be doing a job in the closed off area. Doubtless it'll get horribly delayed now with the BT van being stopped from going to site, and this particular client has had nothing but bad service and must be as sick of us as I am of them... I wish he'd just pontificate right off. |

Switched on BBC this morning and the news was all about the Pope's visit  As far as I'm concerned it is a non-event. Found some real news in the end on Russia Today

i thought Steven Fry would have been in favour of the popes visit, being God and all  nah but seriously hes right, popes visit should be payed for by the church, not by the general public. imagine what would happen if a Muslim dignitary tried to get a state-funded visit, theyd be having none of it

I think the pope deserves a state paid tour of the UK as much as the Rolling Stones. He's the head of a cult in my opinion, which may not be wholly valid. However I'd rather seea rich church fork out millions than the taxpayer who honestly has a lot more problems to deal with than the organisation of international tours. |
