What a shower of absolute cnuts. They've been overselling their services both literally and figuratively for years, and we're supposed to believe they'd be blatantly upfront about certain sites and services (cos that'd be the realistic requirement for Joe Average)? :evil:

We could do with speeding up the scrapping of Ofcom Mr Cameron, and please don't replace it with anyone less than independent, thanks :roll:

So they think they have a way of forcing people to pay more money for what they're already (theoretically, of course) getting for their money...

It is the customer who decides what they want. They have paid for an always on service. Users will decide what they want to download at what times.

Most broadband lines are sold as contended 50:1 which is why they are so staggeringly cheap compared to a leased line.

You get exactly what you pay for. The maths is simple. You should be able to work it out yourself. You're not paying for an 8Meg or 24Meg service; you're paying for a 2% share in one. It should be obvious that not everyone can use 100% of the shared bandwidth at the same time.

If you want an uncontended service or guaranteed quality of service, then you can pay for it. It's expensive. Most people don't need it, and certainly don't want to pay for it.

An interesting story about Virgin Media.

They are basically doing exactly the opposite.

Putting things like iPlayer on high priority whilst throttling (but only slightly) any P2P downloads.

Throttling P2P is fine as long as people know about it. Starcraft does its updates via P2P so customers will not be happy that a legitimate use is clamped down on. Though if they clamp down during peak hours that is fine as we all have to share the network.
