Toshiba has revealed two new glasses-free 3D TVs, both of which will be available in Japan before Christmas this year.
The Toshiba GL1 was unveiled at CEATEC 2010 and works by using "nine different perspectives (parallaxes) of each single 2D frame which the viewer's brain superimposes to create a three-dimensional impression of the image".
According to Toshiba, it has "developed a powerful engine and an algorithm to extrapolate these perspectives" and overcome the 'narrow viewing area' issue that is usually raised in relation to parallax technology.
Toshiba also admitted the TVs were not designed to compete with big screen 3D alternatives that are currently available. The GL1 will be available with wither 12 or 20 inch panels.

Hopefully they could eventually up the sizing. Not that I really give a stuff, but this sort of thing usually takes them in new directions overall
