Superb. Both companies are known for their sleek, efficient software, so this would be a terrific thing for the consumer.

I suspect the chances of either companies software actually improving should such a deal go ahead is bordering on nil.

I guess it could get worse. Imagine Windows starting to get Flash deeply embedded.

It could also mean that applications like Photoshop and Illustrator would cease to be as available for platforms other than Windows. Apple had better have a Plan B for professional tools to replace those.

MS are still producing new versions of things like Office for Mac OS, no reason they'd stop Adobe if they bought them.

It’s the MS Mac Business Unit - which appears to be a completely isolated department in Microsoft - they keep leaving key compatible things out so not everything works with Word on Windows.

It is still a profitable and successful division regardless.

Interesting situation #1
Microsoft buys Adobe but has to jettison Flash (various reasons/I don't care why) Apple buys Flash. Good bye Flash.
</hypothetical situation>

Especially if the software is full of bugs.

Indeed it is - but it just seems to have little contact with the rest of Microsoft when it comes to compatibility.

I think that is a mistake. While those who switch to macs will find that Office will not be as useful as they hoped. The lack of macros in Office 2008 being one example.

The thought of Microsoft getting it's hands on Lightroom does not fill me with confidence.
