the bank should be broken up to create more competition. The mortgages should be hived off into a new building society and existing shareholders have to be wiped out to pay for that. The bank should also be broken up into four or five banks which could be regional and with investment banking separated off completely. they could even create a trade bank which is only allowed to operate to facilitate international trade. By separating this the banks customers could pick and choose who they want for different bits of their business. Also by breaking them up they will need to rebuild a branch network and that might save some jobs. Long term the banks will have to become far less profitable because their profits are really costs on the rest on the economy.
