ROME - Pope Benedict XVI said on Thursday that the media’s increasing reliance on images, fuelled by the endless development of new technologies, risked confusing real life with virtual reality.

"New technologies and the progress they bring can make it impossible to distinguish truth from illusion and can lead to confusion between reality and virtual reality," the pope said.

"The image can also become independent from reality, it can give birth to a virtual word, with various consequences -- above all the risk of indifference towards real life," he said.

He said the use of new technologies should set off "an alarm bell."

Benedict’s comments came in a speech to participants at a world congress of Catholic media, organised by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

Now, the old scrote seems to be fishing around for something to blame since society is rapidly leaving him and his kind to rot, but try applying what he's saying to shows like £X-Factor :)

And then try applying what he's saying to abortion, or the spread of AIDS.
If anyone's separated from reality I'd suspect it's him first and foremost.
Tosser.

This is a religion which specialises in imagery for worship: icons, statues, etc. etc..

It also believes in transubstantiation - confusing real things with imagined things.

Y'know, the more I think about it, Christianity looks like more of a sham religion than what Scientology does.

Christianity has fragmented into many different parts, each seemingly incapable of agreeing with any of the others. Scientology hasn’t suffered such a breakup yet.

At least you did not compare it to the one true religion, Jedi. ;)

Maybe the pope is having problems with learning his new phone?
