Drink driving with kids. They will throw the book at her. I would have thought that a long ban would be in order or even custody.

I used to go in the boot on short journeys when I was a child. It would always be less than a mile round the village though

Actually for really short journeys that is not even a problem. My issue was the drink driving. Overcrowding might be another matter.

Because the length of journey affects the consequences of a crash/accident/collision/whatever?

Well statistically yes, although it's only one of the DoF. I'd thing they'll add the fat the kids weren't using seat belts onto the probably already extensive list of charges, just for a laugh.

Well since the majority of accidents happen within half a mile of the home that is true. Though drinking seriously increases the chances of an accident.

There may be more chance of a crash happening during a longer journey ("I'd been driving for 15yrs before I had an accident..." ) the damage caused as a result of the accident remains pretty similar, doesn't it?
