Two of the most iconic characters of Star Wars are to feature in a new advertising campaign for PC World and Currys.

Droids C-3PO and R2D2 are to star in both print and television adverts, with Anthony Daniels reprising the role of C-3PO once more.

The adverts have been created by M&C Saatchi and have the tagline: "Discover the greatest electrical store in our galaxy."

Space race
Speaking about the advertising campaign, Niall O'Keefe, UK marketing director for Dixons Retail, explained: "Our Megastores offer the largest selection of electricals in the UK, and we wanted to create a partnership that would truly represent the size and scale of the shopping experience a Megastore delivers.

"Who better than C-3PO and R2-D2, arguably two of the most well-known characters in film history, to showcase exactly how vast our Megastores really are – we believe they are unrivalled throughout the galaxy."

He obviously hasn't been to Galaxy Electrics this side of Uranus.

The first televised adverts will be show in the middle of X Factor this Saturday (23 October).
So you can watch the Star Wars cash cow get milked once more and Wagner all in one weekend!

We don't know how we will contain ourselves.

Cylons. They would kick R2’s butt.

Nah, he'd just take off, leaving a wireless virus in his wake which would infect the Humans … I mean Cylons, and drive them out in to the galaxy …

I didn't actually say it, if that's what you're getting at

Quotes are screwed up, sorry. I just find the idea that those two are ' two of the most well-known characters in film history', when you consider some of the other people that have had films (sometimes series of films) made about them leaves me incredulous. I could name a dozen characters who are more famous than them off the top of my head.

Heh, I thought you weren't allowed to tell lies in advertising any more?

In all fairness, film history is forever expanding. Depending on who you ask, more people would likely have heard of/be familiar with C-3PO and R2-D2 than they would, say, Dirk Bogarde.
Horses for courses.

or James Bond? Or Frankenstein? Dracula? Charlie Chaplin? Superman?
That's only Anglophone cinema at that. Bah, it's marketingspeak cobblers. They're two of the most well-known characters in Star Wars, that's it.

I'd say a lot of younger folk these days would recognise these two over Charles Chaplin.

I'd expand that to Science Fiction and probably say popular culture too.

A more accurate slogan would be...

Quote:
PC World and Currys
May the Farce be with you

Cylons. They would kick R2’s butt.
As would HK-47. A Star Wars droid, but 1000 years older than R2.
