http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11609415 I hope Wikileaks does a better job of defending itself this time, and/or has the sense not to publish anything than can be spun against them ![]() |

Maybe they should delay publication till the war is over, and edited to protect third parties. The afghan agents being a good example. |

Wikileaks has released almost 400,000 secret US military logs, which suggest US commanders ignored evidence of torture by the Iraqi authorities. The documents also suggest "hundreds" of civilians were killed at US military checkpoints after the invasion in 2003. And the files show the US kept records of civilian deaths, despite previously denying it. The death toll was put at 109,000, of whom 66,081 were civilians. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-11611319 Have a read at that, it's too much to post here. There will always be scumbags involved in wars, obviously, but it's from the top down and endemic in the US lower ranks seemingly... |

Saw Hilary Clinton on TV today saying how angry they were that this had been leaked. So they are angry that we now know the truth of what was going on? It would seem torture and prisoner abuse was rife by the Iraqi Army and that whilst some in the US Army told their superiors those superiors did nothing and covered it up. |

+1, and it's scary how quickly that sort of attitude spreads through armed forces and becomes the norm for many soldiers. |

That is why it needs to be stopped. In future wars it will mean that those techniques will be used against our troops. I am of the opinion that privates committing such crimes only do so under orders and their superiors are even more guilty of the crimes. The higher the problem goes the greater the guilt. It might have even stretched right to the very top of the military. |
