The government is planning a "very radical" overhaul of the state pension, Business Secretary Vince Cable says.

He did not confirm newspaper reports that it could rise from about £97 a week for a single person to £140.

And he said proposals, due to be published this year, would not happen "overnight" but were long-term plans.

A decent pension is a must. Means testing is a deterrent to actually make a decent personal provision. The retirement age should also be raised further. 66 is still too low, it should be at least 70 if not higher. Though manual workers could be necessary exception.
