Homes of staff from the supply firms were targeted with abusive telephone calls while criminal damage and threats of violence were also used to force companies to cut links with HLS. Realistic hoax bombs were posted to the homes of staff and to offices. Some company directors had leaflets distributed near their homes falsely telling neighbours they were convicted paedophiles and others had used tampons sent through the post saying the blood was HIV positive. Others had words like "puppy killer", "murderer" and "scum" daubed on their houses, cars or on the roads nearby. While not wanting undue suffering to animals in the end if they are testing new drugs and its a choice between the monkey or me then the monkey gets it every time |

Yes but much research is duplicated and there is testing on cells. I am down as a organ and cell donor so that my body can be used for such research rather than animals. Eliminate the duplication and ensure that the research is made publicly available at some point. If companies could sell the data to other companies to cover the costs, that would reduce duplication and have a three year ban on similar research to stop the free rider effects. It could be done. |

The testing and replication of experiments is somewhat the whole point of scientific research and methodology, though. |

'cruel' doesn't really enter into it. The scientific research methodology would say you repeat the experiment enough times to confirm the hypothesis, but no more. So a 'cruel' experiment will be done the minimum number of times, just as a 'non cruel' experiment would. Jon |
