The presenter, who rents out two flats and was employed by the Government as a property tsar, said there was a need for more social housing.
But she told the Radio Times: "If you're taking something from the state then you have a responsibility to your neighbourhood.
"In terms of local authority accommodation, we need more of it but need to be tougher on people who don't look after it."
