Fewer than one in five (19%) teenagers have used a VHS before, says MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.

Research by the online shopping site revealed that as technology changes at an alarming rate, many teenagers have never used music and audio formats that were popular a decade ago. Just four percent of 13 to 19 year olds had purchased a MiniDisc while just over one in ten (11 percent) had used a cassette tape. Furthermore, two percent of teens claim they still own a cassette.

Nearly a third (29 percent) had used a floppy disk to save documents from a PC, although nine percent claimed they didn't even known what a floppy disk was.

Nearly one in five (19 percent) of teens also said they had only ever experienced satellite or cable TV in their family home.

Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: "It's very surprising to see just how little the youth of today seem to know about technology that was around not so long ago".

"Discovering that some of the respondents were unaware of some of the devices really proves how quickly technology is advancing."

I'd love to know how many people they asked - I'm especially surprised at the four percent of 13 to 19 year olds who had purchased a MiniDisc

I think the last time I used VHS was back in uni when I used to record programmes whilst out and about and watch them later. More specifically TMNT 2002 and MOTU 200x.

I think I had even stopped doing that by then - I rarely watched anything I ever recorded on VHS anyway

As high as %19? I'd've put the figure much closer to 0% than that.

We still use our VHS.
There's bargins a plenty to be had on VHS tapes in charity shops. We've bought quite a few Thomas The Tank Engine videos for our son. Plus it doesn't really matter if he wrecks them.
