A judge ordered Justin May, 21, to stay off XBox Live sites after he was accused of attempting to pirate software valued at more than $6 million at a Boston gaming expo in March.
May was placed on probation this week following a hearing at Boston Municipal Court, the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office reports. But, the crafty gamer must stay in school, keep his nose clean with the law, stay off XBox Live Web sites and turn over his computer, authorities said. XBox Live allows gamers to compete against other weaponized Web warriors over the Internet.
If he can abide by the rules, May’s case will be dismissed after 18 months, a judge ruled. If he can’t keep off XBox Live, his case will go to trial.
Representatives of Destineer, a video game company, said May downloaded part of an unreleased game at the expo, authorities said. Destineer has since released the “Triple Crown Championship Snowboading” game for Wii.
May was among 60,000 joy-stick jockeys who packed the Hub’s sold-out PAX East show in March.
May was arrested at the PAX show by a Boston police detail working the floor of the Hynes after he was detained by security officers.
Officer’s seized his Dell computer at the time of his arrest. May’s attorney could not be reached.
