Quote:
(Reuters) - The British Bankers' Association on Monday dismissed a report by the BBC that it was hosting talks among the country's biggest banks over a cut to their collective bonus pot

Source: Reuters

The BBC earlier reported that the BBA were talking about reducing the bankers bonuses from, wait for it, £7billion to £4billion. Bless them, how can they manage?

Turns out that's rubbish anyway.

FFS, we're all being taken for fools and they're laughing at us.

It will not happen. The excuse will be that they need to retain staff and so the bonuses will still be high. The politicians are laughing at us as well because the banks will still be making huge political donations to the big parties to secure soft regulations, so they will be okay even if they make the majority poorer.

Not to mention the likes of PWC doing the same so that the dodgy deals that were signed off never get properly questioned (as one aspect)

i would like the same amount paid in bonuses to the (w)bankers is also paid to the tax office over and above any taxes that they already have paid. that way the tax payer who has aided/assisted/bailed out the (w)banks get a greater return on 'our' investment supporting the whole (w)banking system

that would mean anywhere they operate the playing field would be level, greater earnings bigger bonus, the more they would have to pay above and beyond any taxes, it only takes one country to start the ball rolling, its the only way forward with the (w)bankers ...

Since the banks have such huge tax losses that they will not pay any taxes for about a decade then what would be better is a law that bans payment of bonuses and dividends when there are any tax losses outstanding. Then if there are no tax losses then bonuses and dividends cannot exceed the corporation taxes paid in that year. Those two would stop the issues with bonuses and mean that they could not use tax avoidance to pay bonuses yet avoid UK taxes.
