Games like Call of Duty: Black Ops are increasingly responsible for relationship breakdowns.

That's according to the results of a survey of 1,500 gamers and their partners conducted by One-Poll.com - and picked up by the Daily Mail.

More than five per cent of gamers admitted the pastime had cost them a relationship, while half of women whose partners own consoles said they were "jealous" of the amount of time their loved one spent on the hobby.

One in ten guys said they'd ditched a date to keep on playing a game, while seven out of ten said their partner regularly became annoyed about the amount of time they play for.

A One-Poll.com spokesperson said: "It seems like a games console often means there are three people in a relationship. It's a bit sad if the virtual world is taking precedence over the real world."

The ten game series apparently most likely to cause problems in a relationship follow:

01. Call of Duty
02. Football Manager
03. Grand Theft Auto
04. FIFA
05. Medal of Honour
06. Halo
07. Super Mario Bros.
08. Gran Turismo
09. Mario Kart
10. Guitar Hero

Last month, the Daily Mail asked: Are games as addictive as heroin?

No mention of Farmville, The Sims, the Wii... ;)

Otherhalf has a list she humorously trots out every so often. It’s something like this:

1 - The Cat

2 - The Car

3 - The Cameras

4 - The iPad

5 - The PlayStation

6 - Her

And so on.

My GF isn't a gamer (boo) but she does like watching me play some games if they have a good story (yay).

Don't see the problem, game when the GF is doing something she likes and vice-versa.

This. Sometimes I play on the computer while Wife016 watches some horrible programme on the TV.

Same - - however she is also "addicted" to Farmville so I feel I spend the same amount of time as she does on my games

depends on the people. my girlfriend loves donkey kong country, and we wheel out the SNES every time shes over. if anything, gaming improves our relationship :)

most of that list isnt really a shock to me, since the top 6 in that list are game often played by (imo) douchebags, who probably wouldnt put effort into the relationship anyway. 7, 9 and 10 surprised me though, since they are pretty couple-y games, but i guess things can turn sour if someone always plays dirty :P

LMAO I have experience of that. The ex Mrs W00 spent half of one of our weekends away playing it. There's even video to prove it, although I think it was on her old photobucket.

I do know a guy who spent an awful lot of time on his PC. His wife would frequently kick off about it (we could often her her over his mic), and eventually left him. I don't think it was destined to last - just about any time, out of work hours, I logged on he was always in the servers.

I also have a mate who gave up online gaming because it almost cost him his marriage. Unlike the above couple, she didn't lay down an ultimatum in the form of "the PC goes or I go". She booked a session or two for them with a marriage counsellor to make her point, and it worked.

Both of em got it wrong, I just got my missus a facebook account. Problem solved.

Yes I have seen others suffer from similar complaints. Though the other side of looking at it is that he is playing a game on a computer and not out down the pub flirting with the bar maid and spending money.

My local barmaid is absolutely lovely. Great curves, great smile and a great friendly personality.

I don't stand a chance with her, but she's probably part of the reason I keep going to the damned awful place and spending far too much. New girlfriend doesn't go down there with me any more

Anarchy Online, I saw that destroy several relationships - and make a couple, but that was generally people leaving their real live partner to live with their in-game partner!

I don't play games any more, well "proper" games. I play the odd Flash or iPhone game to kill 5 minutes here and there, but actually playing a "proper" game? I haven't played since I met my girlfriend.

Championship Manager is Nicola's worst nightmare. I gave up on it a long time ago but she's mentally scarred from past history.

We also had a row last night when discussing my intention to buy AC on Friday and GT5 the following Wednesday.

Gamers ought to be single me thinks!

Funnily enough Nic has a strange obsession with watching me leap around buildings before plunging a knife into someones throat. Assassins Creed obviously and not my other pasttime.

Yes, my mate's missus likes that too - I've a funny feeling the ladies like the lead character :)
