Lord Young apology over 'never had it so good' remarks: BBC

Quote:
In the Daily Telegraph interview, Lord Young said: "For the vast majority of people in the country today, they have never had it so good ever since this recession - this so-called recession - started..."

Twat.

The apology isn't worth a jot.

What an idiot. He let the mask slip, because this is how the whole government thinks, I am certain.

What ever do you mean HK? A group of multi-millionaires think like that as well? Surely not.

Well it shows that the Tories are still out of touch with the public.

And now he's resigned.

Trouble for the Tories are his remarks that imply that alot of the austerity measures instigated by the Tories are for Political rather than Economic reasons.

His comments involved reference to the low interest rates, that is part of Labour's approach to dealing with the economic crisis, not the Tories, and he said "so-called recession". So were the Tories talking about a recession because they believed it or because they were doing so for political gain?

Whatever the reason, he was a fool, he's revealed the Tories to be fools and the biggest fools of all are us, for letting them get away with what they are.

The vast majority of the cuts are political especially the welfare cuts. I am not saying that they all are. The cuts to the police and justice system are excessive. The cuts to defence are nonsensical.

It will not be until people lose their jobs and fall into the welfare system and they discover how bad it is to claim, and how little they get, will they realise that they have been misled. The problem is that the major premise of the cuts is that the public sector are crowding out the private sector will be shown to be false. I suspect that unemployment will not fall before the next election, unless the coalition do not change direction.

It may do but the unemployment figures are distorted by the fact that many may be losing full time posts and others are taking up part-time ones.

Yes but that can only last for so long. If it gets worse then more and more part timers? Also when the recovery starts they will be turning those part time jobs into full time ones very slowly so we could still have millions unemployed even after the recovery has been going for a couple of years. Those millions will be living in serious poverty for years.

The downside is that these people will probably end up voting BNP because they feel victimised by immigrants.

What he said though is true

For the middle classes
- if you have kept your job
- and have a variable mortgage

then you are probably doing well

and in the end it the middle class that are the swing vote

this issue will be when goverment spending cuts start really hurting the middle class who work in NHS, Local and National Goverment etc
