John Pilger seems to be the only journalist who can see what needs to be done.

My cynical self says nothing will happen. The masses will remain supine, uncaring in front of their soaps and celebrity-infested "reality" television shows, being fed the propaganda, until it is too late to do anything to stop the carnage. Bread and circuses.

I'm getting very dischuffed with the way this country - and the wider world - is being run (and run down).

Indeed - we are being set up for something. There are the distractions of the Olympics, and to make doubly sure we miss the full impact of the Con/Dem changes next year, a lovely royal wedding. I fully expect news to be buried around those times - news which should cause grave cause for concern.

As long as the tinsel and lamé continues to dazzle on the TV, and the press continues to feed upon that part of the rotten carcass, we haven’t a cat in hell’s chance of any kind of change for the good.

Or maybe the one with the big Cahunas.
Twice winner of the journalists campaign medal of honour, he's the guy the others push forward to face the monster.
When shall it start?

Once I've sharpened the tines on my pitchfork, and got enough dry twigs and pitch for my flaming torches.

I actually expect a number of countries to have serious social unrest even the odd revolution over this crisis. Ireland is becoming a powder keg and next years elections will be a shock to many. Greece is practically a dead cert for riots and even a revolution. Hungary will struggle, and even the Baltic states might have some problems. Russia will be calm because it is a police state again.

The US will find that as foreclosures destroy the fabric of society that eventually they could have riots, that shake the nation. Roosevelt's New Deal was partly a response to the rise of communism and the threat that it posed to the country. If there are similar reactions this time then watch the change in US fiscal policy.

One of the best articles I've read in ages, thank you :)

I often feel like the world is being turned into one giant PFI scheme

Interesting article. Looking through a few of the Comments, this one from Jamie_Griff crystallized things:

Quote:
Whether your politics are left or right of the centre, the fact that we are paying for a epidemic of not only reckless but outright fraudulent behaviour by a tiny minority of financial 'elite', aided and abetted by the political flunkies who rely on their patronage is more than clear.

That the route out of this mess cannot be plotted via our current parliamentary system is also becoming increasingly clear.
