Social unrest would have been likely if housing benefit payments had not been slashed, David Cameron said today after claims that his cuts would lead to an influx of poor families from inner cities to hard-pressed suburbs.

Quote:
In his exchanges on the housing benefit budget, Cameron said reform cuts were needed to prevent social unrest by taxpayers who believe it is unfair.

Between them, I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron and Clegg bring overall voting numbers to an all-time low...

Low turn outs usually support the Tories whose hardcore vote anyway. When voting is higher then Labour do better. I am not sure what the impact is on Liberal vote.

Though I suspect that 4 years on the situation will not be conducive to a Coalition victory. The liberals will probably be set back substantially by their policies, The Tories will probably do a little better. The real impact will be on Labour who might do very well depending on how the economy is going.
