They should be promoting it, we need the funds for the NHS.

Mind you maybe I should invest in brown paper bag manufacturers while I can.

I heard on the news this morning that they wanted to sell cigarettes in brown paper packaging, and I couldn't help but wonder if they are going to be tied up in string...

In India there were things called "bidees", or some such I can't remember the spelling or name really. Which were small cigarettes, more herbal than tobacco, with brown paper skins, prettily secured by a green cotton thread, wrapped around a few times and knotted.

Hand rolled tobacco by child labour, often with cloves and/or betel nuts.

Well yes and no. More smokers will mean higher taxes and shorter lifespans so lower pension payouts, but the anti advertising legislation has been very good to the companies. They used to be big ad spenders now they save all that and pay higher taxes.

Another ill thought piece of proposed legislation. The counterfieters and smugglers will be laughing all the way to the bank. Which will lead to eaven more money lost to the exchequer. Plus it will not protect children as its been suggested it will do. people smoke for a myriad of reasons and not because they think that blue packet is better than the red one. :roll:

The tobacco companies still spend billions in advertising, market research and marketing.

Yes how is the counterfeiting operation? ;)

The billions that the tobacco firms spend is probably spent overseas where it is still legal to advertise and promote the sale of tobacco.

I've smoked them a few times, and they really are bloody awful. :shock:
