Post subject:  Irish Republic offered loan of 'around £7bn' by UK

We apparently have a spare £7bn down the back of the sofa we can lend to Ireland. Where did that come from? I thought we were skint.

Given the apparent size of the export market to Ireland (which is ridiculous if you consider how heavily we rely on a nation of a mere 4 million people), the government probably figures this is the best way to save the UK economy.

I presume it's got some crippling interest rate such that Ireland will pay something like 400% of it back?

Apparently interest rates are being “negotiated”.

Yes he seems clueless, maybe he should borrow the shadow chancellors economics for dummies book? ;)

Also right up till the crisis he was following Labour's spending plans so really cannot criticise them. :roll:
