Charlie Gilmour, son of Pink Floyd guitarist David, has been released on bail while police continue to hunt for others connected with disorder at Thursday's tuition fees protest.

The 21-year-old was arrested at his home in Sussex on suspicion of violent disorder and attempted criminal damage of the Union flag on the Cenotaph.

The Cambridge University student issued a public apology after being identified as one of those who climbed on the nation's monument to its war dead.

Can I please request that the word "cops" is replaced with "police" in the headline??

Best redirect that request to Sky News.

I saw him talking on TV, what an utter twat.

While hunting for the "student" rioters (I doubt all of them were students TBH) why not also focus more news attention on the student who "allegedly" had his head stoved in by a truncheon than on two old Royals who got their car journey slightly disrupted. This country is in major disruption at the moment so I don't give a crap if they came face to face with it.

I feel a storm coming. I like storms.

I always try to leave the headlines as intended (space can be a problem) since a lot of people don't think much of Murdoch's empire, and can probably tell what threads to skip just from the title

I also have serious concerns about the student with serious head injuries. Then there was the case of the disabled citizen dragged out of their wheelchair and across the road. There are lots of things going wrong in this country at the moment.

I saw him talking on Brekfast this morning, he has cerebral palsy as well. He was fantastic. Bill and Sian (who is also on my hypothetical bus) read out a comment from an alleged wheelchair user saying he can't complain because he should of known what could happen.

He responded by saying it's a very messed up society if you have to be in fear of getting hit with a baton and later dragged from your wheelchair when expressing your democratic right to protest.

He has been probably the most eloquant orator they've had on the subject TBH. He says he was hit with a baton on his shoulder in the first incident and then one of the officers recognised him later and four of them dragged him out of his chair and across the street. It was caught on film, it doesn't look good and at no point should anyone be treated like this if all they are doing is expressing their democratic right to demonstrate.

I notice the BBC refer to them as 'protesters' rather than 'demonstrators' now.

The student with head injuries was taken to a hospital which was treating police officers, and they objected to him being there. Top marks to the ambulance crew who told refused to relocate him. They probably saved his life.

Quote:
The mother of 20-year-old Alfie Meadows, who required brain surgery after allegedly being hit by a police truncheon, claimed that when her son was taken to Chelsea and Westminster hospital officers objected to him being treated there.

Susan Matthews, 55, said that only the intervention of an ambulance worker allowed her son to receive urgent medical treatment for the stroke he suffered after receiving his injury. "If he hadn't, Alfie would have been transferred and he could have died," she said.

That and the guy being pulled from a wheelchair twice makes me wonder just how the police saw their role that night.

It made me remember one of the power station protests. When someone used an FOI request for details of police injuries it included heat stroke from sitting in a car, cramps, and bee sting. No injuries from actual protestor incidents. I wonder if the cases on this occasion were of the same order?

err I may be missing something but why would a FOI request for Police injuries include any protesters, unless of course it the was the police protesting

The police were claiming that the power station protesters were a violent bunch putting a number of them in hospital. Yes they did go to hospital but not for incidents involving protesters.
