Just read this article:

and was drawn to this paragraph:

"Meanwhile Labour leader Ed Miliband has warned the Prime Minister he risks creating a "lost generation" of young people by ending the £1bn Future Jobs Fund initiative a year early."

What is this "lost generation" doing? Sitting on it's collective a*** waiting to be spoon-fed? There was nothing like this when I was looking for a job - it was down to me to put the effort in. Are the youngsters of today in such a state that they need everything doing for them?

er.... yes!
Remember the kerfuffle there was when Prince Charsle commented that it was unrealistic to say to kids that there were all these high powered jobs commanding huge salaries just waiting for them. When they was quite simply going to be lucky to get an average wage for a "bog standard" job.

I did agree with Charlie boy then and the facts are still the same. Most kids will be lucky if they leave school to get anything that pays a decent wage. The coalitions long term strategy is to lower wages and living standards for the many to make the country more competitive, though without the investment in education or infrastructure. Great for their backer but lousy for everyone else.

Thing is, most kids today will be lucky if they leave school with qualifications/education that enables them to get a job that pays better. A lot of those that go to University still don't have a decent grasp of the basics like English and maths and need extra tuition to bring them up to standard. I don't know whether this is because our education system is rubbish or kids today aren't prepared to put in the effort, expecting everything to be handed to them on a plate.

I was always taught that if you want something, then you have to work for it. Maybe this should be the first thing kids learn.

Yes the education system is messed up because it was one area where politicians could get involved. It needs to go back to an era when politicians did not get involved. Tampering with the system to get better results has lead to massive rigging of exam results. Universities have to have remedial classes to get students up to standard to do a degree yet even they have been dumbed down to some extent. More so in some subjects. Governments need to realise that people are not that interested in league tables. They want a decent school near them, where ever that is. Scrap all but one exam board so there is no race to the bottom with exam boards. Schools needing better exam results will opt for easier exams, hence the race to the bottom. Scrap all the other exam boards and we can finally see the real impact of education changes.
