Regretting the full bag of Haribo you munched in front of your PS3 last night? Don't feel too guilty: research suggests it might not be your fault. Here comes the science. A study by the nutrition and behaviour unit at the School of Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol have suggested simultaneous gaming and eating may not be the best idea for those looking to shift the pounds. The team explored ways in which memory and attention influence appetite and food intake. According to PA, volunteers were split into two groups; one eating a lunch of nine different foods while playing Solitaire on PC, and the other eating the same lunch 'but without any distractions'. The subsequent report found that the game players felt less full after lunch and, within half an hour of finishing their main meal, ate twice as many snacks as the non-distracted participants. The paper, Playing A Computer Game During Lunch Affects Fullness, Memory For Lunch, And Later Snack Intake, also concluded that those who had been playing the computer game could not even remember the food items they had eaten. Anyone fancy some celery? http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ar ... ?id=283723 I'm thinking quite a few of us could get grants here... |

Or better still, don't sit there for hours playing games, or eating junk food. Solitaire isn't exactly the most taxing of games so I don't know how true this study is. Irrespective, isn't there something about eating your meals in peace with no distractions like TV/magazines etc? |

I've read everything from the amount of times you chew and the subsequent reactions in the brain and body, to your brain not fully appreciating what you're doing because you're distracted ![]() |

So what you're saying is, if you want to lose weight then don't just sit on your arse and fill your face with junk food... Thanks for that. ![]() |
