http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/t ... dness.html

Quote:
MIT professor Sherry Turkle writes in her new book, Alone Together: “A behaviour that has become typical may still express the problems that once caused us to see it as pathological.”
She explains that people are become isolated from reality due to such social networking sites because technology is dominating our lives and making us "less human".
Under the illusion of allowing us to communicate better, technology is actually isolating us from real human interactions in a cyber-reality that is a poor imitation of the real world, she suggests.

So how many will admit to being mad? ;)

Given that I've stopped using FB for three years now, does that make me sane?

I don't really use any social networking sites. I don't have a Facespace account - deleted it after a few months, think I checked it once a month.

I am on LinkedIn and Xing, but that is for business contacts and I don't "post" on them.

The only one I do use is Twitter, but I see that more as an information gathering service - a pertinent, human generated RSS feed.

I do have a Facebook account. No Myspace account. I am ultra selective about who is on my Facebook account. Even best friends are not on it, even though they have accounts. Only my scandinavian friends and family are on it. I only use to play games. Rarely posting on it.

I have two twitter accounts but rarely use it and only have one follower.

So I guess I have dodged the bullet on that.

So that is where to find you then. On the Grassy knoll or the book depository? I shall be avoiding grassy knolls in future.

This is the nearest I come to any Social Networking site - although posting here is probably grounds for insanity ;)

No.

You're not cured, you will be forever labelled "a recovering addict". ;)

I make no appologies for using Facebook.
I use it because it's much easier to stay in touch with my friends when I'm offshore. Phone calls aren't an option as there are a lot of people wanting to use very few phone lines.
I use it much less when I'm at home.

I have the same attitude. I just play games on it and just communicate with a very select circle on Facebook. People can always email me or even call me 24/7.
