Quote:
Are you entirely unsatisfied with the digital publishing revolution? Do you curse your Kindle? One bookseller has the answer: it'll swap your unwanted e-book reader for a stack of paperbacks, hardbacks and magazines.

Portland, Oregon-based Microcosm Publishing said it will trade a Kindle - a gadget it slams as "soulless faux-literary technology" - for the device's value in new or used books and mags.

"Most of the store's books are priced in the $2-6 range so a $139-189 trade-in - note: going retail for the Kindle at Amazon's site - you might be carrying your books out in a fleet of wheelbarrows," enthuses the retailer.

So farm, only one person has taken Microcosm up on the offer, the bookshop's boss, Joe Biel, told Reg Hardware today, but a "ton" of people have expressed in interest in making the change.

What will he do with them when they arrive? Says Joe: "We are going to build a museum with the Kindles to put with our pagers, laserdiscs and 1990s cell phones."

I still prefer books over e-books. The portability is very handy if you travel or read books that are meant to be read sequentially, but not if you browse through a non fiction book.

in order of preference Audio books>e-books>normal books
There are some authors I would still buy the normal book but nowdays they are getting more rare. Having the ability to carry around a library of differing books is great and saves so much space. Especially as I dont resale, if I need to reclaim some space, off they go to a charity shop, so someone else can benefit (nice guy me :D )

Though audio books I find are the best. Put them on the phone and just enjoy.

Isn't this the height of laziness though? 'Oh I can't be bothered, can't you just read it to me?' ;)

Doesn't the Kindle have a text-to-speech option? It will synthesise a voice and read any ebook to you? I always thought that was quite cool.

I often have trouble sleeping, so I put on an audio book to listen to with earphones in so I dont disturb my wife too much.

I often find I can read in complete silence, even without earphones. ;)

I'm beginning to prefer my eBook reader (Kindle on Android) to 'real' books. It's more portable (especially given I have it with me all the time anyway), can access new books pretty much instantly no matter where I am, gets access to free books, can be read in bed without the light on and can carry a variety of books without requiring any more carrying or bag space.

Since I've got my Kindle at Christmas, I have been reading so much more.
