I trust you saw Andrew Neil’s programme about politicians and where they come from these days. Basically private school and certain Oxbridge colleges. Labour, Tory and Lib Dem all share alumni.

The last MP from “the shop floor” was Alan Johnson who was a postman and worked his way up the echelons of the Labour Party. He’s the last of that breed if I’m not mistaken.

And probably the last for decades. Unless the school system changes.

It’s not necessarily the school system - it’s more to do with the self-fulfilling system the political parties have adopted. The current leaders were researchers for their predecessors. No doubt the current lots’ gophers will start to climb the ladders.

Most companies (in the private sector) these days have no collective representation nowdays. Its all about performance criteria.. if you meet those targets you might just get a half of a decent payrise or maybe not.

The teaching profession has far too many people treading water, doing nothing except the bare minimum but demanding to have the same pay rate/rise as those who give a damn and try to do their job properly.


IMHO you should have a non political job for a least five years before you can stand as a counciller/MP/MEP. Just to stop thses career political tossers, who have no real life expericance outside the political world, constantly [LIFTED] up everyones (except theirs of course) lives!!

Yes but unless you can afford to do these jobs for free and live in London what prospects does any real person have? Parties like this because it eradicates individuallity out of candidates. If you were to only listen to them you would have a hard time telling what party they represented. I personally think that only local residents are allowed to stand and no party lists.

The most bizarre proposal is that employees should have to come up with a £500 deposit before going ahead with unfair dismissal & etc actions. The justifications seems to be to stop 'frivolous actions'. No consideration of the fact that it'll stop an awful lot of legitimate ones too, eh lads?

It really is an incredibly one-eyed, partisan, frankly illogical sets of proposals I've seen in a while. If any of it gets within a mile of being legislation the entire political class will end up being lynched.

£500 will stop 90% of claims, most people are living from hand to mouth each week, so will actually deny justice for the vast majority. It will however be a great excuse to join a union. I suspect that union membership will climb once this happens.

Self-interested, single-minded, emotionally-stunted, sociopathic, swivel-eyed, thieving bastards is how I'd put it personally.

And if we're getting rid of the right to association and collective bargaining, how about we start with the IoD? Then we'll do the CBI and the British Retail Consortium. The BRC represents 90% of Retail Trade - if that's not exaggerated bargaining power then I don't know what is.
